Looking for free science supplies? DonorsChoose is your answer!

It is a well known fact that many teachers use their personal money to help create amazing classrooms for their students.

Whether it is buying erasers, candy, things for a school store, or bigger items, I know so many teachers who wish there was a fairy godmother for teachers to wave a want and make supplies appear. Well DonorsChoose is here to help!

In 2000, Charles Best, a teacher in NY began DonorsChoose as way to help classroom teachers get the necessary materials for their classes. He knew his colleagues were spending their own money on supplies and he decided to see if outside people and companies would want to help fund the teacher’s requests.

With his amazing idea, over 2 million teachers, including me, have received items to use in their classroom.

The process on DonorsChoose is incredibly easy to navigate. There is no monetary limit on projects but smaller projects (under $1000) usually get funded more quickly.

When I moved to a new building, I decided that it would be incredibly helpful if I had a class set of digital scales for my classroom. Obviously this was several hundred dollars and I did not want to spend my own money so I decided to try out Donors Choose.

When you go to their homepage you select “Teachers: Get Funded” and they walk you through an easy process to write up your project. This entire process took me just about 2 hours and within a few weeks Ann Taylor Loft came through and purchased the digital scales for my classroom!

As requested by DonorsChoose, I had my students write a thank you note and we also sent a photo of the students using the scales for a lab.

I know teachers who have received iPads, printers, art supplies- you name it!

I am so grateful to the amazing work that DonorsChoose does each year to help my fellow educators!
